New York - Wet Hot American Summer

Remember 2004 when hipsters were embarrassed to be American because of George W. Bush getting re-elected and America looking like a douche bag once it was revealed there were no weapons of mass destruction? Well, its 2010 we got rid of Bush and elected the luscious Obama, and all of sudden America is so fucking hot again. We are so hot our soccer team is even out performing itself. America is so sexy that both human and dogs are wanting to fornicate while wearing the US flag.

World Cup Fashion Fever

....Or World Cup (Fashion) Fever Blisters as we here at Doggey Style like to call it. Every four years there seems to be a break out, and the dog community is no different.

Here you can see this pup is fully supporting the Brazilian team in style with a yellow muscle-tee accented with a studded, punk rock dog collar. Obviously a rebellious spirit as he appears to be an English Bulldog with a Latin flair, but who can blame him after England tied the US 1-1.

This summer's biggest trend isn't the main dish, but the featured side. In this pooch's case its her crocheted bauble collection. Move over seasonal trend attire, and welcome timeless accessories that can dress up or down any outfit. A preppy patterned harness all of a sudden takes on a bohemian air. This pup teaches us that it is OK to wear that schleppy white shirt three days in a row as long as you adorn it with some fabulous accessories.

Bold colors are not for the faint of heart; from primes to fluorescents you can not go wrong this Spring as this pup knows. In a world where dog coats the range from white to brown to black why not mix things up and stand out with crimson red. **Note to the wise though, make sure to play down other accessories when you go this big and bold.

Here it DoggeyStyle we like to think that we have blazed the path of doggy fashion. However this morning we fired up the computer to educate ourselves on this doggy dog world when we came across this fascinating tidbit. It would seem the infamous NARS cosmetics has started a line of makeup for pooches. Do we foresee painted claws and snouts this summer?

DoggeyStyle Trend Alert: Portraits

After months and months of interviewing and photographing stylish canines on the street and in their homes DoggeyStyle has begun to notice a burgeoning trend amongst the hip at heart; dog portraits.

Generally saved for the bourgeois upper class, the art of the portrait all but disappeared in the mid-to-late nineteenth century with the invention of photography. Well over 100 years later the modern day pup is bringing it back with portraits of canines popping up all over Manhattan. It would seem that dogs are no longer satisfied with the moniker of "man's best friend", but are making their claims as creatures worthy of worship.

Who does not remember the lyrical beauty of Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney's Ebony and Ivory? For years black and white have been a bold and powerful statement in not only music but fashion as well; from the mods of the early sixties to modern day Jack and Meg White. This greyhound should really be called a "black and white hound" for his use of color or lack there of. From his swirled black and white coat, to his ever so stylish black and white hounds tooth collar and leash this pup is spot on.

Kawaii, more like Ka Wow Wee! Kawaii means "You're so cute." in Japanese. This little pup is an example of when East meets West.

NYC - Union Square

A few years ago we saw the resurgence of the '80's and as you can see here it has trickled down to DoggeyStyle. This pink sweater has added a feminine touch to the otherwise masculine Pitbull just as this sweater turned a welder into a dancer in Flashdance.

NYC - Magnolia Bakery

This on trend canine did not let the near freezing temperatures stop him from waiting in line to get a cupcake this weekend. Like this dog knows plaid is not only a classic look, but a fabric that is revisited every season by designers for a variety of trends. Whether it is punk, grunge, Americana, or Jean Paul Gaultier sending Coco Rocha Irish dancing down a runway in a kilt; it seems plaid is always 'in'. People might think it is mad to wait outside the Magnolia for a cupcake in 30 degree weather, but this pooch was warm and stylish while he did it. Some might say, "he wanted to have his cake and eat it too", and it would seem he did.

NYC-Astoria Post Office

We came across this man's best friend while at the post office in Astoria. This little fashionista obviously got inspiration from the Proenza Schouler Spring 2010 line. The bright blue harness accents the dog's décolletage in a sophisticated manner. No trash, just class for this pup. This is a perfect reminder to always look your best even when running errands.

The Doggey Style Manifesto

Doggey Style is a revolutionary style blog created to take animal style seriously; specifically doggy style. For centuries focus has been placed on the grooming and fashion of humans. The upper class have long held the fashion reigns due to their power and wealth, but in the last decade much emphasis has been placed on personal style. Personal style is as much an attitude as a look, and now the upper class are paying millions to keep up with the creative energy pouring forth from starving artists and students whose lack of funds have stirred a whirlwind of inspiration. As the great philosopher Horace once said, ‘Adversity reveals genius; prosperity conceals it’, a truth the fashion world is now forced to face. The paradigm has shifted where fashion starts with street style and trickles upwards, and is now reported in a guerilla like way by bloggers who have pirated the fashion world. Bloggers have the power to quickly and innovatively report without influence being directed at them from advertisers, sponsors, and designers. The likes of Vogue have had to sit up and take notice of this shift in aesthetics, and embrace their own loss of power by featuring these bloggers who have flipped the fashion world upside down.

Amidst all of the strife and conflict within the fashion community in the last few years there is a forgotten voice; a voice that is literally “begging” to be heard. Are we as humans so self absorbed as to wonder what animals have to say and feel when it comes to fashion? Do they not bleed like we bleed? Hurt as we hurt? And passionately care about fashion as we do? It is obvious with the rise in grooming parlors, dog parks, dog daycares, and dog fashion stores in the last ten years that a silent movement has been taking place. Have we failed to notice that this emerging market that has burst forth at the same time as the emergence of our own fashion revolution? We here at Doggey Style believe that another revolution has silently been taking place on a parallel plane to our own with many similarities, and we plan to document it in all its glory. To the mutts of the world who are stepping out and barking to be noticed, we are here, and we plan to be your voice. All hail DOGGEY STYLE.
